We check on the new girls each day, and happily, they are fully integrated into the herd! They are in the midst of them each time, and we see no evidence of hostility from our cows. Funny, from the very begin of their time here, all 5 babies have gathered around the new pregnant cow. They stand by her and follow her. Thatโs so strange that they leave their own mamas to follow this new cow. The two new cows also stay close to each other. We are so pleased to see this. I believe this has been the best integration of any new cows we have introduced to the herd!
Elsieโs baby is also doing great! He nurses often and is putting on weight. He no longer has caved in sides. He is energetic and happy.
Two days ago I blanched and packaged our yellow squash and zucchini for freezing. Iโm so happy that we have the room in our freezer for me to do this, so none of our home grown veggies will go to waste.
I made a beef vegetable stew 2 days ago, and I put some of our home grown zucchini in it. It was really delicious!
I canโt wait until our tomatoes are ready to pick, because last season we discovered that yellow squash and tomatoes cooked together are soooo delicious!
I hesitate to say this, because it may not happen, but we have today penciled in to cull some roosters. ๐ข I am dreading it with my whole heart. It must be done, because my hens are miserable with so many roosters. Iโll let you know later if we do it.
