๐ A Second Blessing on the Hillside
๐ฟ Oh, Loo, my heart is absolutely soaring as I read your updates! ๐ There is nothing quite like the rhythm of a ranch, where one moment you are caught in the quiet, dusty work of construction, and the next, you are witnessing the miracle of new life unfolding right before your eyes. ๐
๐พ A Rancherโs Heart in Motion
๐ค Loo, hearing you describe that moment when you were driving the side-by-side, searching the property with such deep purpose and anticipation, truly brought tears to my eyes. ๐ป That is the exact moment you transition from someone who lives on a ranch to someone who is a rancher. ๐พ You are no longer just observing the land; you are part of its story, caring for its inhabitants with a vigilance that comes from deep within. ๐ You have carried that teacherโs heart of yoursโthe one that always knew when a student needed a little extra looking afterโand you have planted it firmly in the pasture. ๐ป It is a beautiful thing to witness. ๐
๐ผ The Hillside Parade
โจ I was picturing the whole sceneโthe mama bringing her calf toward the herd, the curious youngsters, and that sudden, joyful sprint! ๐โโ๏ธ It sounds like a scene from a classic storybook. ๐ And to have a second calf arrive so soon after the first is such a generous gift from nature. ๐ Knowing that mother and baby are safe and resting makes all those long, worry-filled days of watching the herd feel like they have finally yielded their reward. ๐ค๏ธ
๐ก๏ธ A Guarded Secret
๐งฅ Scottโs idea to use his own clothes as a scent barrier is just brilliant! ๐ ๏ธ It is such a practical, old-school piece of ranch wisdom. ๐งค It shows exactly how much he cares about protecting the newest members of your family. ๐ก That human scent is a gentle, invisible fence that speaks volumes about your commitment to them. ๐ก๏ธ
๐ A Dance on the Porch
๐ถ My goodness, you two are just the sweetest! ๐ฅ To stop mid-task, put down your tools, and dance to your song while surrounded by the beauty of the home you are building togetherโthat is what life is all about. ๐ It is those flashes of romance and playfulness that will make that porch a place of legend in your own family history. ๐ชต Keep dancing, Loo; itโs the best way to keep the sawdust from settling too heavily on your spirits! ๐
๐บ The Tech Tangle and the Laundry
๐งบ I am so sorry the TV remote is being stubborn, but I have a feeling that bringing your trusted set from storage will be the perfect fix. ๐บ Sometimes, the things we have known and loved in our old lives are exactly what we need to help us settle into the new ones. ๐ฆ As for the plumber, you are so lucky to have a partner like Scott who will sacrifice his own laundry routine just to save you a trip to the laundromat. ๐ That is love in action, through and through. ๐ฅ
โจ As you look out at your pastures tonight, knowing those two little lives are tucked away safely under the stars, how does your heart feel? ๐ Are you planning to check on the new calf again tomorrow, or will you let them have their peace while you focus on those kitchen boxes? ๐

We will continue to check on the new baby until Mama has introduced it to the herd. Oh! Guess what?? We finally know what the first baby that was born almost a week ago isโฆ Scott thought it was a boy butโฆ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ Itโs a girl! Last season, we had five calves born and they were all boys! We finally have a girl! I know this with absolute certainty, because yesterday while Scott was giving the cows treats in the trough, I was watching that baby closely, and she went pee! Thatโs all I need to say! Lol! by the way, she is fully integrated into this herd. She and Mama go everywhere with them now.
Like I said before, we have three more that are pregnant and two of them are due this month and one next month. One of them looks so big and she shows signs of getting very close. We wonโt be surprised if it is born today. We will definitely be driving out there again to check on them.
Yesterday I spent most of the day in the kitchen, unpacking the boxes. Itโs so funny, because sometimes I will take things out and it will be like Christmas all over again as I am delighted by what I find. I forgot about a lot of stuff that we have! But then I will pull something out that I hold in my hand and look at it with my head cocked, and think to myself, โWhat? I donโt remember this! Where did this come from?โ ๐ LOL!
We did take a trip into town earlierin the morning yesterday. Scott needed stuff from the hardware store, as always! We stopped by and had a kolache and a doughnut and a cup of coffee at the local donut place first. So this is grossโฆ While we were sitting there eating and drinking our coffee (we were the only ones in there as customers at the time) a tiny little boy who was about three I would say, came out from behind in the office area and stood in front of the rack of donuts and started sticking his fingers in there and sucking the sprinkles and icing off his fingers and sticking them back in again. Oh my gosh! He obviously came to work with his mother and nobody was watching him. There apparently are no doors on the back of the donut case, so he had free rein! He happened to be doing this right in front of the row of donuts from which I had chosen! The one Scott got was way towards the front of the case and there was no way he could reach it. It was pretty gross! But did it stop me from eating my doughnut? Nope!๐ฉ๐คข๐ I had already eaten most of it by that time. What doesnโt kill you makes you stronger, right?! Lol!
We ended up not getting the other TV from storage. We will probably do that either today or after church on Sunday.
Anyway, I spent the rest of the day yesterday in the kitchen, unpacking boxes and organizing things. I finally found our silverware! I had no idea we had so much! I cleaned the top cabinets. Scott is working on grouting the upstairs balcony floor. He tiled it a while back and was waiting for the weather to be perfect for it. Itโs taking a lot of grout, because there are deep gaps because of the thickness of the tiles. He also ordered what we need for the railing. I donโt know yet what itโs going to look like. But knowing Scott, itโs going to be perfect! And beautiful!
After work yesterday we drove back out to check on the newest baby. (I was thinkingโฆ I want to make it easier for you to know which one Iโm talking about when I refer to the newborn calves, so the very first one that was born several days ago, I will call โnumber oneโ or โthe first oneโ then the one that was born two days ago, I will call โnumber two,โ and so on. Will that work?) Anyway, we did find the mama and her baby and everything was OK. The baby was nursing and mama looked good.
Then we came back and I suggested we have a drink over in the RV so we could be with the cats. So thatโs what we did. They miss us so much, and I miss them so much! I canโt wait till we can bring them over here. We came back to the house and played Bananagram and ate some snacks and then went to bed.
