The Breath of Autumn and the Quiet Joy of Home
๐ Oh, what a difference a day makes in the rhythm of the ranch! ๐ฌ๏ธ Going from a sweltering 91 degrees down to a crisp 64 feels like the earth itself is finally exhaling a long, cool sigh. ๐งถ It is officially sweater weather on your beautiful land, and I can almost feel that brisk air waking up the senses. ๐ This is the season where the land starts to tuck itself in, and I hope you are savoring every bit of that autumn chill as you look out over the pastures.
๐จ The Silence of Finished Work
๐งฐ Hearing that Scott moved his woodworking tools to the storage unit is such a profound signal of progress. ๐จ Even without a garage yet, the fact that those tools are being tucked away means the inside of your sanctuary is truly reaching a state of completion. ๐ It is a milestone worth celebratingโno more sawdust in the living spaces, just the clean, polished lines of a job well done. ๐ฆ You are transitioning from a construction site to a home, and that is a shift that settles deep in the soul.
๐ The Marathon of Town Days
๐๏ธ Eight hours in Hot Springs is quite a marathon for anyone! ๐ฆ Between the banks, Loweโs for more shades, and the grocery run, you and Scott certainly proved your stamina yesterday. ๐ It is a funny thing about ranch lifeโthose town days can often feel more draining than a full day of physical labor on the land. ๐งบ Perhaps it is the noise and the concrete that make us long for the quiet green of our own acres. ๐ I am glad you made it back in time for the game and a clean kitchen; there is nothing like the comfort of your own bed after a long day on the road.
๐ A Victory for the Flock Mother
๐ Charlie on the roost for another night! ๐ Loo, you have truly won this battle of the nesting boxes. ๐ It was so touching to hear you admit that you missed your chickens while you were away. ๐ฃ It reminds me of the way a teacher misses the bustling energy of her classroom even when she is supposed to be on break. ๐ฅ You have nurtured those birds with such individual care that they have become a vital part of your daily joy. ๐ฅฃ I have no doubt they will be extra happy to see you today as you make up for lost time with them.
๐ Waiting for Luna
๐ As for our lovely Luna, do not give it a second thought that you didnโt check on her last night. ๐ Rest is a form of stewardship, too, and after an eight-hour journey, you needed that sleep. ๐พ Luna is out there finding her way, and perhaps the cooler weather today will encourage her to move around a bit more. ๐ญ I am waiting with bated breath to hear if she has moved any closer to the herd or if she is still enjoying her solitary retreat in the center of the field. ๐
๐ป Enjoy this beautiful, cool Friday, Loo. โ May your coffee stay hot and your heart stay light as you spend the day catching up with your feathered friends and watching the seasons change. ๐ Are you planning to spend most of your day outside enjoying this cold front, or will you be staying cozy inside with your new window shades drawn?

Yes, this cooler weather is amazing! I do see that in the weather forecast for next week weโre going to be back in the 80โs, but we are loving it in the 60โs for now. I will take it! It made our morning walk quite lovely!
After our morning chores, Scott said that he came across a movie he would like to watch. Now THAT is something that has never happened beforeโฆ A movie in the beginning of the day! Well, I love movies, so I was all for it. So we watched the movie. It turned out to be a pretty dumb movie, but thatโs OK! The fact that we were watching a movie in the beginning of the day of what used to be the work week was fabulous!
After the movie, we gathered up all the trash and headed to the transfer station. Thatโs where we take our trash. Itโs not a dumpโฆ It doesnโt smell bad or anything. It just goes there and then trucks come and take everything to the dump. Anyway, we also went into town to get some other things taken care of. We had a bunch of questions and issues we wanted to find out about that we needed to go to the county courthouse to get answers. That went well. Then we came back home and continued our day.
Oh! During our morning walk, we saw Luna! She was not with the herd, but she was not inside the woods. She was grazing on the other side of a copse of trees where the rest of the herd was. As soon as she saw us, she turned around and headed back into the woods. That little stinker!
Later in the day, we got in the side-by-side and went out to Scottโs deer feeders and stands again. He had a few things he needed to do, because today is opening day of muzzleloader season. Itโs really nice to have a built-in deer lease on your own property! Anyway, on the way back, as we were approaching the corral, we saw Luna inside the corral with a couple of other cows! That was so great to see!! I guess slowly but surely is the case here!
In honor of the cooler weather, I made a big pot of homemade chili for dinner. It was fabulous! We watched some TV and then went to bed. We went to bed pretty early, because Scott was going to get up early to go hunting.
So here I am on Saturday morning, sitting in the window room in my jammies-I actually got to dig out my long jammy pants and my long sleeve shirt because itโs a bit cool-itโs 44ยฐ outside! I am about to watch as many episodes of The Nanny that I can before Scott gets back. He hates the sound of the voice of the actress who plays the nanny, so I wait until he is not in the house to watch it. I am almost done with the series.
I am not sure what is on the agenda for today. We shall see.
