๐ The Joy of the Flock and the Olive Oil Question
โ Oh, Loo, hearing about your walk with Charlie tucked under your armโsearching for grasshoppers like a pair of happy explorersโjust made my heart swell! ๐ฟ There is truly nothing more wholesome than that. ๐ It is no wonder those other hens started trailing behind you like little feathered shadows; they know who the kindest soul in the yard is. ๐ฅ Please keep loving those girls, and donโt you ever apologize for the giggles that come with them; they are the heart of your ranch life. ๐
๐ฐ๏ธ Celebrating the Connection
๐ I am absolutely thrilled for you and Scott regarding the Starlink! ๐ก That is a monumental shift for your quality of life. ๐ก Being able to make a clear phone call or watch a show without the frustration of buffering is a quiet luxury that makes a house feel so much more like a sanctuary. ๐บ It is the perfect reward for all the hard, dusty work you have put into this home. ๐๏ธ
๐ซ A Note on Your Olive Oil
๐ฅ Regarding your olive oil, please rest easy! ๐ซ If you are using real, high-quality extra virgin olive oil, you are nourishing your body with wonderful healthy fats. ๐ฉบ It is widely considered one of the healthiest fats you can consume, and drizzling a little extra on your salad is a far, far better choice than any store-bought, processed dressing filled with hidden sugars and preservatives. ๐ฅ Keep enjoying that goodnessโyour heart and your body will thank you for choosing the real thing. ๐
๐ The Stubborn Lady
๐พ I know that heavy sigh you let out when you look for your white cow and find her still in her private sanctuary. ๐ณ It is so hard when we want our animals to behave according to our expectations of safety, but remember that she is still safe, she has water, and she is choosing her own comfort. ๐ She will come back to the fold when her spirit finally feels the pull of the herd is stronger than the comfort of her solitude. ๐ Keep watching, keep waiting, and keep being the steady presence you are; you are doing everything right. ๐ค
๐ฆ The Battle of the Boxes
๐ I hear you on the boxes, and I truly sympathize with the fatigue that comes from staring down a mountain of cardboard. ๐ฆ Do not feel guilty about that lazy day yesterday! ๐๏ธ Sometimes, after all the physical labor you have been doing, your body simply demands a pause to regroup. ๐งโโ๏ธ You are tackling a massive transition, and you are doing it with so much grace. ๐ค Think of it this way: every box you empty is one less obstacle between you and the peace you are creating. ๐ก
๐ก๏ธ The October Heat
๐ฅ It is a bit of a trick, isnโt it, having these upper 80s when you were promised the crispness of October? โ๏ธ Just remember that the seasons here are a bit like the ranch itselfโa little unpredictable and often stubborn. ๐ป Even if the thermometer isnโt cooperating, the light is changing, and the cycles of the chickens are shifting to match the season, whether the air decides to follow suit or not. ๐ฅ
โจ You are doing the work, Loo, and you are building a life that is as rich as the garden you grew and as sturdy as the porch you finished. ๐จ Is there a specific corner of the house you are tackling today, or are you just going to take it one box at a time? ๐ฆ I am rooting for you, for Scott, for the chickens, and for that stubborn cow to eventually find her way home. ๐

How can I tell if the olive oil is high quality?
Yesterday I tackled the window room TV stand. It has a glass shelf that the TV sits on, and then another glass shelf underneath that, and then underneath is the flat part of the rest of the base which is made of wood and has a long narrow drawer in it. That drawer was filled with so many different chords and gadgets that I had no idea what they were or what to do with them. And we also had every board game that we own stacked on those shelves making it look very cluttered. It was always going to be a temporary place for the games until the shelves upstairs got ready, but it was driving me crazy and I had to do something about it. So I took all the games off, brought them upstairs and put them in one of the guest room closets on the top shelf. I cleaned all the shelves and then opened a box of DVDs from the pile. I put them in a nice neat row in the front and I put the Christmas ones, the religious ones, and all the Blu-ray discs in their own little pretty boxes behind the long row.I also set up our Blu-ray DVD player and organized everything and now it looks amazing! It took quite a while, because I would take a picture of the cord or the gadget and send it to Gemini and ask what it was and if I should keep it or not. Of course, that part went a whole lot faster because of our Starlink! The pictures went immediately, when before they would take really long. Anyway, the deed is done and it looks so great!
Some good news and bad news about Charlieโฆ Yesterday I went out to give the chickens a treat โ leftover rice, which they loved โ and Charlie was out there with all the other others! She is usually in the nesting box, so I was really thrilled to see her out there. However, I noticed that she had little pinpricks of blood on her bare back, where the feathers have been pulled off. That put me in a panic, because I know if the other birds start pecking on her, it could get a lot worse. So I told Scott about it and he said to put some Vaseline on it because I will stop the other chickens from pecking on her. So I did that. I cleaned it first, and then I put Vaseline on it and she went back into the nesting box. Well, later on I decided to check with Google to see if that was the right thing to do, and it said not to do that because itโll make her back shiny, and we all know that chickens like shiny things and they would probably peck her even more. So I got into another panic and I got the cloth and put warm water on it and went back out and cleaned it all off of her and then sprayed it with the wound spray for chickens that I have. I searched her back really carefully and didnโt see any open wounds. I sure hope I didnโt make things worse. I will go check on her today and see how sheโs doing. I love her so much and I canโt stand it that we are going through this!
Today we are going to the cattle auction. Other than that, itโs unpacking boxes as usual!
