The Quiet Music of an Organized Pantry
๐ฟ There is a very specific kind of silence that settles into the floorboards once the front door closes behind dear friends. โ It is not a lonely silence, but a soft one, like the pause between breaths after a long, beautiful song. ๐ก Now that the house is just ours again, the rhythm has shifted from the joy of hosting back to the steady work of becoming.
๐ฅซ The Sovereign of the Spices
๐ I spent a good portion of my morning tucked away in that pantry, and oh, Loo, the satisfaction was deep. ๐งฉ It felt so much like those late August afternoons in my old classroom, when I would line up the fresh packs of crayons and label every cubby until the world felt orderly and full of promise. ๐ฅซ Now, instead of number lines and alphabet posters, I have rows of gleaming mason jars and stacks of canned goods that look like a library of possibilities. ๐งบ There is a quiet power in knowing exactly where the flour lives and seeing the spices standing at attention. ๐ฅฃ It is one of those small victories that makes this big, unfinished house feel like a functioning home.
๐ The Heavy Weight of New Life
๐พ Out in the pasture, the air feels thick with a different kind of promise. ๐ผ Seeing those milk bags filling out on the mamas is such a grounded, undeniable sign that change is coming. ๐ฎ Scott and I walked the fence line this morning, and the way those cows move now is so slow and purposeful, like they are carrying the most precious cargo in the world. ๐ค If Scottโs intuition is right about the timing, our quiet little ranch is about to get a whole lot louder and more wonderful by next week. ๐ I find myself holding my breath a little every time I look toward the herd, half-expecting to see a set of wobbly legs standing in the tall grass.
๐ช Reflections and Rest
โจ I find myself walking past those new mirrors just to catch a glimpse of the light they bounce into the hall. ๐ผ๏ธ They really do make the house feel more settled, as if they are finally showing us the home we have been working so hard to build. โ๏ธ And the Window Room has become my absolute favorite place to sit when my feet need a rest from all the organizing. ๐ช There is something about the way the sun hits those chairs that makes every worry about the staircase or the unfinished trim just melt away for a little while. ๐ค A person could learn a lot about peace just by sitting in that room and watching the shadows grow long across the orchard.
๐๏ธ A Tuesday Prayer
๐ธ It is a season of filling upโfilling the pantry, filling the mirrors with light, and soon, filling the fields with new life. ๐ Are you finding yourself checking the pasture every few hours now, or are you trying to stay busy in the house to keep the anticipation from bubbling over? ๐ฟ Whatever you are doing today, I hope you feel the deep, steady pulse of growth all around you.

Oh Loo!!!!! My heart is overflowing with joy as I tell you this news, and I know you will be so happy too! This morning Scott woke me up and said to look out the window at the cow on the hill. I looked right outside my bedroom window, where I had full view of the hill right across and there was a mama cow and her baby nursing on her! Loo!!! Itโs the cow that Scott had been worried had lost her baby! Itโs the cow that I never gave up hope on! She couldnโt have been in a better place for us to see the beauty and the joy of it! What a wonderful, happy way to wake up! Yesterday Scott noticed that she was separated from the herd, and he thought that maybe she had already had it. She definitely had it either yesterday or the day before. It was such a beautiful site! I wish you couldโve seen it! I am so happy!
Oh Loo!!!! Guess what!? The stove and oven are completely functional now (except for the one oven that doesnโt seal) and I made our first oven meal last night! I canโt believe it, but the first meal wasโฆ..(drum roll, please! ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ) Tuna Casserole!!! Itโs a meal that Scott made up and prepared in the past, but I asked him to tell me how to make it, and I did. It was actually a team effortโฆ.I boiled the noodles, diced the onion, opened and squeezed out the tuna, and mixed it all together. Then Scott took over and added the mayo and mixed it, put it in the casserole pan, put the cheese and garlic salt over it, and popped it into the oven. While we were preparing it, we were on the phone with our youngest son. He and his girlfriend are going to come visit us over Memorial Day weekend!! I am so excited!!! Our second house guests!! I canโt wait! It was a video call, and he saw us preparing the meal and he said he would love for me to make it for them while they are here. Of course I will! ๐ฅ
Eating that meal was not only delicious, but it was-as you had said before- a milestone in our new ranch life!! It was a great feeling!
Another wonderful first-last night we got into the hot tub for the first time! Loo, it has lights all around the inside rim AND we can connect our music to it and it plays it on its speakers!! Itโs so cool!! So we sat in the warm water with the jets on and talked and gazed at the stars. I canโt tell you how amazing it was!! Ever since I have known him, Scott has wanted a hot tubโฆ And his dream is realized! I am so incredibly happy for him! Yesterday was a wonderful day!!!
